rude awakening!

a few months ago, i swore that i would emerge victorious in my battle with the bulge. the first few weeks had been relatively easy; in fact, i showed really visible results of diet and exercise. however, when different stressors started to kick in, i noticed that i began slacking off. nothing could have sent me a better signal for this painful realization than an experience i had at the supermarket last week.
you see, i was doing my weekly stroll at the supermarket (one of my guilty pleasures) when i decided to reward myself. on my way to the counter to pay my item, i saw on a magazine rack a special edition of reader’s digest. i found the issue quite interesting, especially that it has a feature on the 35 easy ways to lose weight; i decided to get it. i was already at the counter when i realized how crazy the situation was: i had a pint of ice cream on one hand and the digest with a very prominent print on how to diet on the other.
guess what happened next? well, the multi-tasker that i am, i was reading the article while eating the ice cream. it was only when i had my last tablespoon of ice cream that i vowed to seriously clean up my act.
well, just this week, i found two reasons to really exert an effort on losing weight. first, i had my blood tested and as i suspected, i have a high cholesterol level. my doctor said i should exercise and diet, which i think is cruel now that it’s pigging out season again. second? i went to church earlier when i noticed a sticker on my seat. i didn’t notice it at first, but on my way back from the communion station, i saw what appeared to be a silly joke: the monoblock chair i was sitting on had a sticker with a glaring message that reads, "certified 400 lbs. tested." i take it as a sign. because if it weren’t, how come i can still feel the sting of what might have been a slap on the face?
my sneakers and jogging pants are ready for tomorrow’s oplan lose weight. heaven help me!
wal a-jah!
